Wisma Barito Pacific is Chosen as Green Office Role Model for BRI National SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) Study Program

5 October 2022 - Created By Griya Idola

Environmental awareness can be found anywhere lately, especially with the highly publicized Government's SDG (Sustainable Development Goal), which aims to be achieved in 2030. In pursuing SDG, BRI, as one of the government's banks, arranged a special visitation to Wisma Barito Pacific (WBP) as the case study to get a real insight into Zero Waste to Landfill implementation. The delegation of WBP as the office waste-management role model resulted from the recommendation from Waste4Change, a leading waste management company in Indonesia. The company was established in 2016 and has had numerous other waste-management inspections ever since, yet named WBP as the best office building to implement Zero Waste to Landfill program. Actively contributing to the environmental issues, Waste4Change has the "Akademi Bijak Sampah" education program for office training and CSR through society counseling programs.

On Thursday and Friday, 6 – 7 October 2022, 19 BRI representatives visit WBP in 2 shifts. Shift 1 is held on Thursday, 6 October 2022, joined by 10 participants, while shift 2 is on Friday, 7 October 2022, joined by 9 participants as BRI headquarter representatives of each department. They are welcomed by Griya Idola Building Management, and subsequently explained WBP's waste management.

WBP implements a waste sorting policy for all its tenants as a legal obligation, as stated in the rental contract. Two officers do the daily inspection and collect validated results. The monthly result is announced by displaying it as a lift poster, enabling the whole tenant to see the result. It is expected to be an effective way to drive all tenants to maintain their reputation and function as an award for the best tenant.

Satisfied by the documented waste management in WBP, the participants continued the visitation by studying Griya Idola's waste management presentation and ending it with the Q&A session. So many insights were gained from this visitation, including a fully standardized and well-functioning waste-sorting program, till the recycle bin's customized shape to ease the waste-sorting activity. The most considerable appreciation is also given to WBP Building Management, who ensure the consistency of the program's operations. Generally, they learned a lot of interesting insights from WBP as the waste-management role model to assist their initiation of the Green Office pilot project in BRI headquarters.
